WHY IT MATTERS
Some viewers may develop an unusually intense attachment to families they watch regularly. A small minority can begin to feel entitled to personal replies, private information, meetings or physical access to the family despite having no genuine relationship with them.
1. MAINTAIN CLEAR AUDIENCE BOUNDARIES
Watching the family doesn’t make somebody part of the family.
2. NEVER PUBLISH HOME DETAILS
Personal access must not extend to knowing exactly where children live.
3. DON’T REWARD INTRUSIVE BEHAVIOUR
Repeated boundary crossing shouldn’t earn extra attention.
4. LIMIT PRIVATE MESSAGING
Children should not privately communicate with adult viewers.
5. TAKE UNINVITED VISITS SERIOUSLY
Showing up at homes, schools or clubs is not normal fan behaviour.
6. KEEP ROUTINES PRIVATE
Predictability makes unwanted encounters easier.
7. USE BLOCKING AND MODERATION TOOLS
Persistent intrusive accounts should not retain unlimited access.
8. DOCUMENT SERIOUS HARASSMENT
Keep records where behaviour becomes threatening or obsessive.
9. TEACH CHILDREN NOT TO TRUST RECOGNITION
A stranger knowing their name doesn’t make that person safe.
10. REDUCE EXPOSURE IF NECESSARY
Audience growth is never more important than physical safety.
BOTTOM LINE
An audience is invited to watch content, not to enter a child’s private life.
